Wild Yam

Wild Yam

Wild Yam, native to North America, is a member of the Dioscorea family. The medicinal portion of the plant is its dried root. For centuries the wild yam, containing diosgenin, a natural precursor to progesterone, has been used as a nutritional support for women’s glandular systems.

Native American women discovered that it reduces the discomforts associated with pregnancy and labor. An extract of the Wild Yam has been used as a remedy for high cholesterol, lowering triglyceride levels and raising the level of “good” HDL.

Wild Yam has also been found effective as a remedy for gallbladder problems, painful menstruation, rheumatism, and stomach upsets, including morning sickness. Caution: Excessive doses may cause nausea.
