Dong Quai

Dong Quai

Dong Quai (Angelica Sinensis), called dang gui (proper order) in China, is often referred to as the “female ginseng” and “the empress of herbs.” The healing properties of this herb are derived from its root, which is said to “harmonize” the blood.

For thousands of years, Chinese women have used dong quai as a daily tonic to effectively regulate menstrual cycles and to alleviate menstrual cramps and discomfort of PMS.

It also eliminates many menopause symptoms, such as hot flashes. Both men and women with cardiovascular disease may benefit from this herb, which serves as a blood tonic promoting circulation. Pregnant women and people on blood thinning drugs should not take dong quai.
