Mullein

Mullein

Mullein, a common biennial weed plentifully found all over Europe, Asia and North America, has long been known as a powerful herb for healing, soothing and protecting. The Greek hero Ulysses is said to have used mullein as a protection against the temptress Circe, and in Europe and Asia it was believed to have the power to drive away evil spirits. For centuries, Native Americans have recognized it as a major healing herb.

Research studies have found mullein to be analgesic, antihistaminic, antibacterial, antiinflammatory, antiviral, and anticancer. It has long been used as a treatment for chest colds and hay fever, including relief of sore throats, glandular swelling, coughing, and breathing problems.

Topically, it is very effective in treating burns, open wounds, itchy skin, and arthritic joint pain. Mullein mixed with olive oil is a well known remedy for earaches. Other uses include relief of hemorrhoid pain, stomach cramps, and diarrhea. Mullein is truly one of the most beneficient weeds on the planet.
